The Witnesses

2015년, 양극성장애가 시작되었다. 그때의 환상은 내가 겪은 어떤 경험보다 강렬한 이야기였지만, 누구에게도 — 특히 그 이야기의 주인공에게는 — 쉽게 말할 수 없는 이야기였다. 말할 수 없는 이야기는 그림이 되었다. 이 시리즈에는 두 부류의 목격자들이 등장한다. 백일몽에서 만난 이들 — 시인 W.B. 예이츠, 전설 속 여왕 메이브, 그리고 아일랜드의 K. 그리고 현실에서 마음으로 나를 지켜봐 준 이들. 그들 사이에, 꽃에 둘러싸여 잠든 소녀가 있다. 그 시간을 지나며 잃어버린 천진난만함이다. 2019년, 10년 만에 다시 찾은 아일랜드에서 안개에 싸인 여왕의 무덤에 올랐다. 상상 속의 무덤은 실재했다. 그 여행을 마지막으로, 나는 나의 아일랜드를 이 그림들 속에 봉인했다.

In 2015, bipolar disorder began. The visions of that time were the most intense story I have ever lived — yet one I could not easily tell anyone, least of all the person at its center. The story that could not be told became paintings. Two kinds of witnesses appear in this series. Those met in daydreams — the poet W.B. Yeats, the legendary Queen Maeve, and K of Ireland. And those who, in the real world, watched over me with their hearts. Between them sleeps a girl, surrounded by flowers: the innocence lost in passing through. In 2019, returning to Ireland after ten years, I climbed to the queen's grave wrapped in fog. The grave from my visions was real. With that journey, I sealed my Ireland inside these paintings.
